Manage your irrigation plot by plot, in real time

The AKS connected soil moisture probe is a complete kit combining a multi-depth capacitive probe and an autonomous 4G gateway (integrated battery + solar panel). It continuously measures soil moisture and temperature across 3 to 9 depth levels depending on the model, and transmits data every hour to the Akua Hub platform via 4G mobile network — no data plan required, everything is included.

The AKS probe is built on a simple conviction: precision agronomic technology must be accessible to every farm, regardless of size. Starting at €135 excl. VAT, it is 3 to 5 times cheaper than equivalent products on the market, without any compromise on measurement quality.

What you measure

  • Volumetric soil moisture across 3, 5, 7 or 9 depth levels (depending on model)
  • Soil temperature at the same depths
  • Precise GPS position within the plot
  • Weather forecasts integrated into the platform to anticipate irrigation scheduling Accuracy: ±1.5% moisture±0.5°C temperature. Transmission every hour.

Why monitor soil moisture?

The soil moisture profile is the most direct indicator of plant water needs. Its evolution over time reflects actual water consumption and enables irrigation decisions to be made on the basis of objective data — no longer by eye or by calendar.

Combined with weather forecasts, this monitoring allows you to anticipate water inputs, avoid unnecessary irrigation during rain, and manage water constraints during drought. The goal: achieve a target yield or quality, plot by plot.

The Akua Hub platform

The Akua Hub platform centralises the management of all your probes. It is accessible from computer, tablet and smartphone, with no installation required.

It automatically displays agronomic thresholds calculated from sensor data and soil characterisation:

  • Max FC (Field Capacity — saturation)
  • PAW (Plant Available Water — comfort zone)
  • Low PAW (caution — imminent irrigation decision)
  • PWP (Permanent Wilting Point — extreme water stress) Each probe is visualised on a map, with its instantaneous moisture status, battery level and signal quality. Configurable alerts (by SMS or email) notify you as soon as a threshold is crossed.

What you can expect

  • Up to 30% water savings by irrigating only when the soil needs it
  • Up to 15% more yield by eliminating water stress at critical growth stages
  • Fewer leached inputs thanks to optimal moisture conditions at application time

Extend your installation

A 4G AKS gateway accepts up to 3 probes connected in series. Once your first kit is in place, you can cover new plots or zones without investing in a second gateway — simply add standalone probes (from €85 excl. VAT), delivered with their daisy-chain cable.

The first 5 probes are included in the base Akua Hub subscription: adding additional probes does not change your subscription as long as you remain below this threshold.

Standard or remote installation

In standard configuration, the gateway is mounted directly on the probe at ground level. If your plot has limited network coverage, significant shading, or if you regularly carry out shallow soil work, the remote mounting kit allows the gateway to be positioned at 1.5 m height, using a steel mast and a 4 m extension cable. The probe and cable can then be completely buried.

Frequently asked questions

How does the Akuasense capacitive probe work?
The probe uses dielectric technology: integrated electrodes create an electromagnetic field in the soil. The presence of water alters this field, and the probe converts this perturbation into a precise volumetric water content value. The result is transmitted every hour via 4G to the Akua Hub platform.
What is the measurement accuracy of AKS probes?
Akuasense probes offer an accuracy of ±1.5% for moisture and ±0.5°C for temperature, across all measured depth levels.
Do the probes require an external power source?
No. Each kit includes a battery and solar panel. The probes are 100% energy-autonomous — no power outlet, no manual recharging.
What subscription is needed to access the data?
Access to the Akua Hub platform is available via a subscription at €10 excl. VAT/month for 5 probes included (€2 excl. VAT/month/additional probe). The 1st month is free. No commitment, cancel any time. The SIM card and 4G data plan are included — no extra operator costs. See the subscription details.
Which probe length should I choose for my crop?
The right length depends on your crop's active root zone — the soil layer where water uptake is concentrated. Choose 30 cm (3 depths) for leafy vegetables and shallow-rooted crops (salads, onion, strawberry); 60 cm (5 depths) for most vegetables and drip-irrigated orchards; 90 cm (7 depths) for field crops and vineyards; 120 cm (9 depths) for precision vine management, olive groves, and deep-percolation monitoring. A guide to typical rooting depths is available on the site.
How many probes can be connected to a single 4G gateway?
A gateway can manage up to 3 probes connected in series. If you started with this kit (1 gateway + 1 probe), you can add up to 2 additional probes, sold separately. It is also possible to connect a Watermark 200SS tensiometric probe.
Is it worthwhile to add probes to the same gateway?
It depends, and most of the time the answer is rather no. Technically, a single 4G gateway can manage up to 3 probes, but as soon as two probes are more than 4 m apart, the connecting cable costs more than buying a complete kit — and it leaves cables lying around. So it's mainly worthwhile when the probes stay close together: in market gardening, for example, with beds of different crops side by side. Beyond that case, it's better to use one complete kit per zone.
How do I access data from my probes?
Data is transmitted every hour to the Akua Hub platform, accessible from any browser (computer, tablet, smartphone). The platform displays moisture and temperature profiles, agronomic thresholds (FC, PAW, TAW), configurable alerts, and integrated weather forecasts.
Do the probes work in all weather conditions?
Yes. The probes are fully waterproof (IP68) and operate across a temperature range of -30°C to +70°C. They are designed to remain in place throughout the season, regardless of conditions.
Can the gateway be installed at height, away from the probe?
Yes. The remote mounting kit (1.5 m steel mast + 4 m extension cable) allows the gateway to be positioned at 1.5 m height, independently of the probe. This improves solar panel exposure, can strengthen 4G network coverage, and allows the probe and cable to be completely buried to avoid interfering with shallow soil work. This kit is sold separately.
What is PAW and how does the platform use it?
Plant Available Water (PAW) is the fraction of soil water that the plant can absorb without entering water stress. Akua Hub automatically calculates PAW from sensor measurements and soil characterisation, and displays a colour indicator (green = OK, yellow = low PAW, red = stress, blue = waterlogging) to support irrigation decisions.
What agronomic results have been observed with Akuasense probes?
Farmers using Akuasense probes report on average up to 30% water savings and up to 15% additional yield, thanks to the elimination of water stress and optimisation of irrigation scheduling.
What is the warranty and return policy?
Akuasense probes come with a 3-year warranty. You have 30 days to try the kit and return it if you are not satisfied, no questions asked.
Are the probes designed in France?
Yes. All Akuasense systems are entirely designed in France by the Akuasense teams, after more than 18 months of R&D: from the sensors to the gateways. Patented proprietary innovations.
What is the advantage of buying the complete kit rather than the probe and gateway separately?
The complete kit is significantly cheaper than buying the probe and gateway separately. It is also the simplest entry point: everything is configured to work together right out of the box. If you then want to expand your installation, simply add standalone probes to the same gateway.
